
Tim Palmer is Head of Music Education at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and leads the MA in Music Education & Performance, and the Teaching Musician MA. He also leads the institution’s contribution to the ‘Musicians in Education’ PGCE in partnership with the University of Greenwich.
Tim studied at the Liszt Academy, Budapest; the National Centre for Orchestral Studies; Cambridge University and the GSMD. At Trinity Laban he conducts teaching and research into the role of the musician in education settings, and into creative teaching in music at HE level. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has published chapters in Making Music in the Primary School (Routledge 2011), Developing the Musician (Ashgate 2013) and Creative Teaching for Creative Learning in Higher Music Education (Ashgate 2016). Tim has taught at the University of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church University and the University of Greenwich, and is a guest lecturer on the MA in Music Education at the UCL Institute of Education.
Tim is active as an animateur and music education consultant, and has devised and led education projects for many major arts organisations. Previous positions include Director of Music at the Sound Futures Youth Music Action Zone and Musician in Residence at the National Maritime Museum. He also maintains a performing career and has been guest principal of, amongst others, the BBCSO, the RSNO and the London Sinfonietta, appearing with the latter as a soloist on a number of occasions.
The Western Music Education Association (WMEA) is a non-profit company formed to support music education across India. The mission of the Association is to positively affect music learning in India by providing institutional guidance and quality professional development for music teachers.
